What is the simplest definition of aging?
Aging is a constant decrease in the capacity to
do things, both physically and mentally, and a constant increase
in age-related diseases. Just look at the average young person -
full of energy, capable to move mountains and earn PhDs. Then
look at the average elderly person: Fragile, frequently walks with
a cane or saddled in a wheelchair, and burdened with a confused
mind. They sometimes do not remember the most basic things like
finding their way home from the local supermarket. It doesnt
have to be that way!
Scientific definitions of aging
Until recently, there were many different theories on aging. Several
of them have died of old age and others have grown stronger based
on research. The theories that gained support by confirming postulated
causes of aging are discussed in Part I.
Average life span increases of nearly 100% have resulted by combining
the key factors from each theory on aging and applying them in longevity
studies on cancer-prone animals. Scientific data from human longevity
studies confirm these numbers.
Did you know that we can presently interfere with at least 33 major
age-related causes?
